Feed a Senior This Thanksgiving with Meals on Wheels
Thanksgiving is just weeks away, and our Meals on Wheels drivers will soon begin delivering holiday meals across Greater Houston and Galveston County. Thousands of seniors who cannot leave their homes are counting on us, and we are counting on you.
Thanks to the generosity of our neighbors in Houston and Galveston, we provided Thanksgiving meals to more than 5,000 seniors along the Gulf Coast last year. Your gift this year can help us reach even more and let them know we are thankful for them.
Consider a former elementary school teacher who spent 40 years shaping young minds in Houston. After her husband died, she found herself navigating grief alone. Arthritis makes cooking difficult, so she often eats whatever is easiest: crackers, cereal or sometimes, nothing at all. When her Meals on Wheels driver delivered a Thanksgiving meal last year, she cried. “I hadn’t had a holiday meal in years!”
Another senior is a retired shipyard mechanic who spent decades repairing vessels along the Gulf Coast. After a stroke limited his mobility, he now lives alone in a small apartment, and his Meals on Wheels driver is often the only person he sees all week. When his holiday meal arrives, it’s our way of reminding him that people still care.
These are the reasons this work matters. A holiday meal brings comfort and nourishment, and it tells a senior that someone remembered them.
We are actively working to fund every Thanksgiving meal for every senior we serve, and your gift right now can help us reach the finish line. We are deeply grateful to everyone who donates and to all who support this program. Please give today, before holiday deliveries begin in November.
