Pet food on the same route
Volunteers pack pet food that rides along with the senior’s meal, which means no extra trip and no extra cost for the client.
Veterinary support
We help arrange basic veterinary care and vaccinations so a health problem does not become a reason to give up a companion animal.
Why it matters
Case staff consistently find seniors feeding their own lunch to a pet. For someone living alone, that animal is the reason the day has a shape.
About the program
It started with drivers noticing something
Meals on Wheels drivers kept seeing meal trays on the floor. Seniors were feeding their pets before feeding themselves. Animeals exists because of what those drivers reported back.
Any active Meals on Wheels client with a pet can receive free supplemental pet food, delivered on the same route as their own meal. Veterinary support came later, once it became clear that food alone does not keep an animal well.
For a homebound senior, a pet is often the only company in the house. Keeping the animal fed and healthy is not a side benefit of the meal program. It is part of what keeps someone going.
How to enroll
Animeals is offered to active Meals on Wheels clients. Tell your driver or call the office and we will add your pet to the route.
If you are not receiving meals yet, start there and add Animeals once you are enrolled.
