Volunteer Houston, a program of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, is the local Points of Light affiliate for Houston, Texas.
The Points of Light Disaster Management Committee is a vital component within the Points of Light Global Network, serving as a representative body responsible for shaping disaster relief strategies, programs, and initiatives. Comprising affiliate leaders from various regions, the committee ensures a collaborative approach to disaster management across the network.
Campbell’s extensive experience in disaster management and her proven leadership within the committee have garnered the respect and admiration of her fellow committee members. As Chair, she will steer the committee’s efforts in building disaster response capacity, establishing best practices, and enhancing collaboration among affiliate organizations.
The Disaster Management Committee operates within the broader structure of the Points of Light Affiliate Assembly, a critical entity representing the Points of Light Global Network. This assembly holds influence in shaping organizational strategies, initiatives, and policies related to disaster management and response, among other key areas.
The committee comprises five affiliate-led subcommittees: Marketing & Communications, Disaster Management, Collaborative Fundraising, Data & Research, and Knowledge Sharing. These subcommittees work collaboratively to set achievable goals that drive the assembly’s strategic plans into effective action.
Goals set forth by the Disaster Management subcommittee include building capacity for Points of Light, affiliates, and corporate sponsors, with a focus on disaster management best practices. This encompasses developing resource documents outlining corporate actions before, during, and after disasters. The subcommittee also aims to strengthen network capacity by framing disaster cycles through a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) lens, aiming to provide a comprehensive best practices document.
In addition, the subcommittee continues efforts to collaborate on fundraising initiatives, establishing a dedicated fund for disaster grants to facilitate disaster response efforts.
Points of Light emphasizes its role as a crucial entity prepared to respond effectively when disasters strike both within the United States and globally. The organization emphasizes its commitment to focusing on its mission and values, empowering the Points of Light Civic Circle to drive and accelerate positive change.
