HOUSTON (October 16, 2023) – For over 50 years, Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM) has been bringing diverse groups together for dialogue, collaboration and service. The organization’s programs have evolved over the decades to meet our community’s changing needs, but the “strength of shared beliefs” has remained its solid foundation. IM seeks common ground on basic human values that people of all faiths and people of goodwill share – care for the vulnerable, respect for the neighbor, and building bridges of understanding.
This work of connecting diverse groups and fostering respect is conducted through IM’s Interfaith Relations and Community Partnerships department, which works with a Multi-Faith Council of over 60 area faith leaders. As part of this work, IM is kicking off the 2024 iLead Youth Engagement Program on January 14, 2024.
IM’s iLead Youth Engagement Program seeks to inspire, educate, and connect 8th-grade students and a parent or guardian in a unique learning and service opportunity to build stronger interpersonal relationships, communication skills, and networking abilities across diverse faith and cultural backgrounds.
From January to May 2024, the program will be open to 8th graders and their parents or guardians, and participants will learn about Houston’s diversity and the importance of respecting religious and cultural differences, the meaning of allyship, learn about Houston’s religious and, and how they can make a difference through volunteerism and service. This learning will take place through bi-monthly interactive, innovative, and fun programming.
By uniting students and a parent or guardian in dialogue, service, and collaboration, IM offers opportunities to share quality time with each other, build and strengthen family bonds, develop leadership skills, and impact our community in a positive way.
