HOUSTON (July 5, 2024) – Volunteer Houston, a program of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, in collaboration with Houston muralist Jesse Sifuentes, is dedicating three new murals at local nonprofits. These murals were painted by volunteers at the 2024 Points of Light Conference in Houston. This initiative, funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, aims to enhance community spaces, promote volunteerism, and foster cultural enrichment.

A mural dedication will take place on July 8th at 1:30 PM at Catholic Charities – Guadalupe Center, located at 326 S Jensen Dr, Houston, TX 77003. Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston brings help and hope to people in need through a network of life-changing programs to alleviate poverty throughout the greater Galveston-Houston area.

On July 10th at 2:00 PM, the final mural dedication will occur at the Houston Humane Society, located at 14700 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77053. The Houston Humane Society is dedicated to ending cruelty, abuse and the overpopulation of animals. Media representatives are invited to attend.

Jesse Sifuentes, a celebrated artist with over 30 years of experience as an East End resident, has significantly contributed to the area’s rich visual history through numerous public works. The murals have been designed with the work of recipient organizations in mind.

“The public art project gave volunteers an opportunity to pause and reflect on volunteerism’s impact,” said Andréa R. Shiloh, Vice President of Volunteerism and Civic Service with Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston. “We are especially proud of this public art project because it brought people together to create a piece that will live and breathe the themes of volunteerism and civic service for generations to come.”

The first mural dedication of the three occurred at the Beacon on June 28th, an organization that provides services to individuals experiencing homelessness in Houston.

Volunteer Houston urges community members to continue supporting public art projects and volunteerism, which play a vital role in the social, cultural, and economic development of the city.
