Volunteer Houston Re-Launch
April 16, 2018 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Recently, VH became a part of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM) and on Monday, April 16, 2018, VH will host a re-launch event as part of the National Volunteer Recognition Week from April 15-22, 2018. We are partnering with several community organizations and community-minded corporations for the re-launch event at Hartsfield Elementary, a school within Houston Independent School District (HISD), to engage the students in lessons about the importance of volunteerism and giving back to the community through the following:
- Students in each grade (K-5) will participate in an age-appropriate volunteer project to create something fun and meaningful that benefits local community organizations, e.g. partnering with Combined Arms to create thank you cards for local veterans.
- Representatives from the community organizations (i.e. MECA, HoustonPetSet, Alzheimer’s Association, Combined Arms, Rebuilding Together Houston and Project C.U.R.E.) will be on hand so the students can present their completed volunteer projects directly to them.
- On April 21, VH will host a School Yard Build at Hartsfield Elementary symbolizing how the community gives back to the students – bringing full-circle the importance of volunteerism. This needed project will give Hartsfield students a long-lasting outdoor classroom with treated wood so they can learn about the environment while out in the environment. We are especially excited about this project because Hartsfield is the only animal and environmental magnet school in HISD.
