Description: The Houston Symphony—in partnership with Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, Rice University, and the University of Houston—celebrates the determination and hope of Houston’s refugee communities in a project called Resilient Sounds. Under the supervision and mentorship of Houston Symphony Composer-in-Residence Jimmy López, six young composers from Rice and UH are paired with members of Houston’s refugee community. Each composer tells their refugee partner’s story through the universal language of music. Creative partners—such as vocalists, writers, dancers, and filmmakers—join the pairs to help bring these stories to life. The culmination of the project features members of the Houston Symphony performing all six works at White Oak Music Hall on June 11.
Tickets: Available online at houstonsymphony.org/resilientsounds or by phone at 713.224.7575. Tickets are $20.
