HOUSTON (October 4, 2023) – Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston is preparing to provide Thanksgiving meals to homebound seniors through IM’s Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston and Galveston County (MOW) program. This Thanksgiving, they are inviting the community to join them in raising $90,000 to provide meals for seniors in need. Reliant has already stepped up as Presenting Sponsor of this year’s project!
In addition to providing meals, Interfaith Ministries is seeking Volunteer Callers. The Thanksgiving Volunteer Call Team will wish seniors a Happy Thanksgiving with a personal phone call on the morning of the holiday. The calls will take place on Thursday, November 23, 2023, starting at 9:00 AM CST and may be made from the comfort of the volunteers’ homes.
Registration for the Volunteer Call Team opens on September 18, and limited slots are available. Each Volunteer Call Team leader must register through our Every Action Virtual Phone Bank system at https://www.imgh.org/thanksgiving. The whole family is invited to participate, and volunteers can make calls together or double their impact by signing up to each make their own individual calls.
With 5,400 seniors to contact on the morning of the holiday, each Volunteer Call Team is asked to make at least 10 calls. Volunteers are encouraged to keep going if they wish.
To participate, volunteers will need access to a personal, internet-connected device and an ActionID (User ID/login) for the Virtual Phone Bank. Setup instructions will be emailed to registered volunteers closer to the event. Volunteers are also asked to find a (mostly) quiet space in which to make their phone calls, as many of the seniors are hard of hearing and background noise can make it difficult to converse.
Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston and the Greater Houston community are committed to helping seniors in need this Thanksgiving. To join the Thanksgiving Volunteer Call Team or to donate to the cause, please visit their website at https://www.imgh.org/thanksgiving.
