The board announced the selection March 6, 2025.
Mukhtiar joined IM Houston after seven years as CEO of SERJobs, a nonprofit that helps people from low-income communities through education, training, employment and financial empowerment services. At SERJobs, she led efforts to sustain operations during the pandemic, expand services, strengthen community partnerships and create more opportunities for underserved people across Greater Houston.
“I am honored to join IM Houston and deeply inspired by its mission to bring people of all faiths together to serve our community,” Mukhtiar said. “IM Houston’s work in promoting interfaith dialogue, supporting members of the refugee community, providing Meals on Wheels and engaging volunteers across sectors is a testament to the power of compassion and collaboration. I look forward to building on the strong foundation of this incredible organization and working alongside the dedicated team of staff and board to further its impact.”
As president and CEO, Mukhtiar works with the Board of Directors, staff and community partners to support the growth of IM Houston’s programs across Greater Houston and Galveston County. Until she joined, Henry Florsheim served as interim CEO and Saied Alavi served as board chair.
