HOUSTON (December 4, 2020) –Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (Interfaith Ministries) hosts an annual, community-wide Meals on Wheels Holiday Project to provide holiday meals and gifts for homebound seniors in the Greater Houston and Galveston areas. In the month of December, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Meals on Wheels seniors will be receiving frozen holiday meals they can eat when they choose, and a gift bag filled with warm, useful and fun items.
Now more than ever, homebound seniors need help. The need for senior meals has continued to grow during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to raise $77,000 to provide meals and gifts to nearly 5,000 seniors in need this month and beyond.
There are several ways to get involved during this season of giving, and all of them can be done virtually or in a socially distanced manner.
- Join the Secret Santa Gift Bag Team– Adopt a senior or two and provide them with holiday gift bags. These bags are supplies that provide the seniors’ items they regularly need and a fun item or two. A list of suggested items is provided and completed bags can be dropped off at Meals on Wheels.
- Join the Santa Paws team for Animeals– The beloved pets of homebound seniors are not forgotten this year. Dry kibble is needed to feed the 1,300 pets of homebound seniors. Pet food can be dropped off at Meals on Wheels in Midtown Houston.
- Donate– Would you like to have an impact but can’t commit to the other volunteer opportunities? Donations of any amount are welcome.
Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program serves close to 5,000 seniors in the greater Houston and Galveston areas every weekday, delivering nutritious meals and providing a friendly call or visit that helps support seniors living independently in their own homes. Along with providing nourishing food, Meals on Wheels feeds the spirits of seniors with a friendly hello and a check on their well-being.
