HOUSTON (April 15, 2024) – As hurricane season approaches, Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston is gearing up for its 2024 Operation IMpact, an annual project that prepares Meals on Wheels seniors for hurricane season.

Operation IMpact addresses the critical needs of homebound seniors who rely on Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program for nutrition and support. With an unusually active hurricane season forecast, Operation IMpact is critical to ensure these individuals have access to emergency food to sustain them.

Each weekday, Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston and Galveston County Program delivers meals to over 5,600 homebound seniors who struggle to prepare meals for themselves safely. However, during extreme weather, such as hurricanes or flooding, delivering these meals becomes increasingly challenging and sometimes impossible.

To mitigate the impact of such disruptions, Operation IMpact equips Meals on Wheels seniors with five-packs of small shelf-stable meals and emergency supplies, ensuring that seniors have access to essential resources during emergencies.

“We recognize the vulnerability of our seniors during times of crisis, and Operation IMpact serves as a crucial lifeline for those who rely on our Meals on Wheels program,” said Martin B. Cominsky, President and CEO of Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston. “With the generous support of our presenting sponsor, CITGO, and our Harris County sponsor, Energy Transfer Partners, we can ensure that our seniors are prepared and supported during the upcoming hurricane season.”

Operation IMpact will occur on June 1st in Houston and June 8th in La Marque. Interfaith Ministries encourages community members to support this vital initiative by donating or volunteering.

“Together with the community’s generosity, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our seniors during times of crisis,” added Cominsky.
