One morning, while delivering donations, Marlin and his friend were invited into the family’s home and treated to a homemade dessert, an unexpected gesture of warmth and gratitude that left a lasting impression.
“As an elder, I am really concerned about isolation and loneliness amongst the elder population in our society,” he says. “Volunteering with Refugee Services is so easy, and the sense of connection and community just makes it an amazing experience.”
Marlin’s story reflects the heart of Volunteer Houston, IM Houston’s portal that connects thousands of neighbors with opportunities to serve. From mentoring families to delivering meals or responding after disasters, volunteers help strengthen the fabric of our community.
