Mindful Monday…A Moment of Prayer and Reflection for this time of Covid-19 pandemic takes place every Monday from 12:00pm – 12:05pm in your specific time zone.
Today’s prayer focus is for those front line workers who are outside the hospital but still on the front lines of need and do not have the option of staying at home.
The prayer for this week is offered by the Sikh community of Greater Houston. Founded in 1469, Sikhism is the world’s 5th largest world religion. Sikhs, coming from a word meaning “student, disciple” believe in one Immortal Being; ten Gurus, from Guru Nanak to Guru Gobind Singh; the sacred text called the Guru Granth Sahib; the teachings of the ten Gurus, and the baptism bequeathed by the tenth guru.”
Many thanks to Kulbir Singh, along with Manpreet Kaur, for this prayer.
Sikh prayers traditionally begin with:
Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Kee Fateh (“The Khalsa belongs to Waheguru, Victory is gifted by Waheguru”) with Waheguru being a term for God (meaning “Wondrous Guru”) and the Khalsa being both the Sikh community as a whole as well as a body of initiated Sikhs.
The world goes through cycles of distress and misery – shower it with Your mercy.
Give us the blessings of Your understanding to guide us through these times
With this understanding, all fear gets erased regardless of where we are or what we are doing
The one Waheguru is my protector
Whatever path pleases You, is the path we follow
Without you, we cannot do anything.
With you by our side and contemplating on your teachings, peace can be found
You reside in every thing and every one
The cares of all are on Waheguru’s mind and no one is turned away from Waheguru
Those who have Waheguru as their friend and companion and are in love with the Creator of all, then pain, suffering and doubt run away from them
Provide strength and courage to your beloveds who are risking their well-being to serve others
May we all remember the Creator is intertwined within the Creation and the oneness that connects us all
Give us the understanding, faith and peace throughout the upcoming days and in our lives
Bless those on the frontline and allow those suffering to maintain a state of chardi kalla – a state of eternal optimism.
